Hello friends! It’s a new week and that means new opportunities! To keep things exciting and fresh each week, I like to set fun mini goals. Sometimes that may mean setting new strategies on how to improve myself, my business, or simply it’s just testing out new things.

Last week I decided to test out a new hair care product. When it comes to my hair, I am really reluctant to try new things. Reason for that is, when I was younger I did EVERYTHING imaginable to my hair. It was so much fun to be living in a constant change; in colors, styles, you name it. But like everything in excess, it gets a little old. As you can imagine, I did some good damage to my hair, but I’ve been hereditarily blessed with strong hair and it always seemed to recover pretty fast. I always thank my mom for this one as if she was in charge! 😉

The last few years my hair has felt more dry than usual. We moved into an area where our water has higher mineral contents and I’ve had to buy more hair masks, deep conditioners, B-vitamins, and oils to keep it looking its best. I don’t color my hair much anymore, maybe 1x a year and that’s just for some highlights. To keep the natural oils locked in, I wash it every 3 days, never less. I got a new hairdresser with new hair coloring products and improved my diet to strictly Paleo and GF. So where is my shine and luster? I am still trying to find it. 🙂 What extent would you go to protect your hair? I’ve considered washing it with RO water, but that’s just being crazy!

Recently I decided to try a new ceramic hair straightener by Irresistible Me. I wanted to see how it could improve the dry appearance to my hair. Some straighteners really add a nice shine after running it through your hair, so I thought, well why not? I liked the design and thought well maybe the diamond and tourmaline technology will help protect my hair and keep it looking its best by working with what I’ve already got. So I ordered it, and the package arrived. Beautiful packaging, speedy delivery, and I could even use it as a curler. Total bonus!

This is my hair just air dried. Nothing special but a little bit of a beachy look. It’s fine and naturally wavy, and this day I had added a tiny amount of the Chi Styling Cream, which is also a new product to me. Generally, I don’t like to use many products. This product didn’t dry out my hair more, but it gave it the slightest extra hold, just enough to protect and style my hair when running the straightener. Could I live without this product? Absolutely! It didn’t hold in curls like I would have wanted. I have more luck with curls when I don’t use styling creams. So I’m trying out a new product, a spray, to see if that will give me better shine and heat protection because it seems like that’s all I need.

I used the ceramic hair straightener to lightly straighten my hair, remove the frizz, flyaway hairs and to smooth everything down. It heated up super fast, stayed hot all throughout my straightening, and in the end it did a fabulous job. The only thing is that I was left wishing was that it would add shine into my hair as some of my older straighteners do.

Feeling a little unsatisfied, I decided to create some curls. The curls this flat iron could create are amazing, but mine didn’t stay in at all, so I used the Chi Infra Gel (I actually got this for my husband) before curling. This product was way over the top for my hair. Too strong, too much. It made my hair stick together and I couldn’t run my fingers through it (one of my favorite things to do :)! Ok, so gel was not the way to go! I occasionally use a light hairspray, but normally I don’t use anything to hold my curls in. They just stay in place for a day or so.

If you are looking for a straightener to do the job fast, make your hair feel soft, and only have to straighten your hair once until you wash it again; then this straightener is amazing for that. It’s lightweight, dual voltage, and handles those frizzy strands really well. I will be trying out new natural hair nourishing methods that i’ve linked above and give this flat iron another try down the road. Will let you know how it all goes in a month!
